WHAT IS MEDITATION?

It is the way back Home, the way back to Peace

What is Hridaya Meditation? Coming back to the Heart

In my beloved school of yoga and meditation, Hridaya Yoga, they talk about that connection with the most inner guidance, the essence of our being. That it is timeless, limitless, that it is beyond suffering, beyond the personality. Always here.

The Spiritual Heart.

And we can think, ¨What is that?¨ ¨ I don't feel that connection¨. The ego and the stories we heard from it can hide the connection that we always have with the Heart. We are always connected to the heart, it is just the mind that gets in the way, so we can't feel it.

Hridaya meditation is a deconditioning that brings you back Home.

3 Steps

  • Bringing the attention to the heart center. In the middle of the chest, a little to the right. And you will ask, ¨to the right? Yes, to the right! The Spiritual Heart is not the anatomical heart or Anahata chakra, is it that place where we touch with our hand to say ¨me¨ or ¨ I feel¨. And a sense of connection with what it feels to be always there will appear within us.

  • The awareness of short pauses after inhalation and exhalationFocusing on the silence and stillness between breaths.

  • Asking the question, Who am I? and being present for what comes.  Self Inquiry, the most potent tool to transcend the personality to be free from the mind.

These steps are just tools to help us to connect with our deepest truth, the essence of our existence, the Spiritual Heart.

We can use all of them or just one, at the end of the day what matters is that we find the way to feel that Truth.

Sahajananda, my master, always refers to this metaphor from the Zen tradition...¨ The finger that points to the moon¨. This means that getting too focused on the finger (techniques), will not allow you to see the Moon or Consciousness. They are just the doors to access your Being.

Let come what comes, let go what goes, and see what remains.                                                                           Ramana Maharshi
